On this gastronomic tapas tour you will visit the best bars and restaurants in the Old Town of Santiago de Compostela. Your Food & Wine Guide Expert will meet you outside the Cafe of Hotel Pazo de Altamira. An excellent option for those who would like a lunch tasting various Galician fine wines paired with delicious, freshly made tapas.
Santiago de Compostela is undoubtedly one of Spain's most majestic cities. A lot has been written about the place and historians today still discuss its pivotal role in the long centuries-long push to reconquer the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. An interesting fact about Santiago de Compostela is that the Codex Callixtus, compiled and published around the year 1140, was the first recorded travel guide for the god-fearing pilgrims that undertook the long, perilous walk across the plains of Castile to the Apostle's legendary resting place in Galicia, St. James Way.
Our 2.5hr.-3hr. approx. hour food, wine tapas tour of this ancient city will take us a little off the beaten pilgrim path - taking in beautiful squares, winding streets and alleyways along the way. We will visit both traditional hostelries and cutting edge vinotecas where you'll have the opportunity to taste some of Galicia's most interesting wines, both red and white.
These wines will be accompanied by traditional Galician specialties such as pulpo á feira (which very loosely translates as 'octopus Galician style'), tortilla (spanish omelette), pimientos de padrón (fried green peppers) and when in season, locally harvested shellfish such as mussels, cockles and razor-clams.
This is a very relaxed-paced walking food tour with a definite wine lover’s focus.
