Diego Gil was our guide for the gastronomic part of our trip. His tapas tour was outstanding – not purely gastronomic but a fascinating introduction to the city in three different styles. The first stop was the roof terrace of a private flat, where we simply ate cheese and ham accompanied by a bottle of local red wine and a stunning view of the Mezquita. The second was a large hotel, where we looked at Visigothic remains in the basement before a beautifully-presented tapa with cava in the hotel bar. The third was a local tavern, clearly off the main tourist trail, where we ate local specialities with fino.
