The city centre of Porto was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Classified Area. Along with Rotterdam, Porto was declared European City of Culture in 2001.
The Portuguese city of Porto is mainly famous for two things: its river, the Douro, and its port. But we must not forget about its city centre as it is as pretty as these places.
Porto is often chosen as the prettiest city in Portugal over Lisbon, the capital. It is a fact that it is smaller than Lisbon but sometimes that it's exactly what makes it more interesting as it is quite easy to walk between places for tourists.
Also, it's the home of port and the wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia which are a must-visit (and must-taste). Secondly, its Ribeira district is one of the most Instagrammable historic quarters that you will ever find!
